Our Story

Alabama is home to a rich array of natural landscapes, including the Sipsey Wilderness, the Bankhead National Forest, often referred to as the "Land of a Thousand Waterfalls," and the vast Talladega National Forest that provide critical habitats for wildlife and vital spaces for recreation and reflection. However, these treasured areas face mounting threats such as habitat degradation, pollution, and invasive species. The increasing number of visitors to these wild places, while indicative of their appeal, also places additional pressure on their delicate ecosystems.

A significant challenge is the growing disconnect between residents and these natural spaces. Many communities lack access to environmental education and nature experiences that could inspire a deep appreciation for the natural world. Without a strong, informed public that understands and values the importance of these wild places, the long-term protection of Alabama's public lands remains uncertain.

There is a pressing need to inspire residents across Alabama to learn about and value their local wild places. Developing an appreciation for public lands and an understanding of their ecological, cultural, and recreational importance is crucial for fostering a conservation-minded citizenry. By educating the public and engaging them in stewardship activities and the health benefits of being in our natural world, Wild Alabama seeks to bridge this gap, ensuring that more people are not only aware of the beauty and significance of these areas, but also feel a personal connection to their preservation. and connect to the calmness of nature and the health benefits that it offers.

our vision

Wild Alabama aims to cultivate a sense of responsibility and stewardship among Alabamians, encouraging them to take an active role in protecting the state’s natural heritage.

With increased awareness and appreciation, residents are more likely to support conservation efforts, advocate for policies that protect these areas, and participate in activities that sustain not only our collective ecological health, but their personal health as well.
