Volunteer Wilderness Rangers perform all duties of an official Forest Service wilderness ranger besides law enforcement. Our wilderness ranger program is a decade old and 20 active rangers strong. Wilderness rangers are charged with performing light trail maintenance, trash removal, educating wilderness visitors on Leave No Trace and Wilderness education. They are a helpful presence in our wilderness areas. There is special training involved and we accept committed volunteers that will dedicate themselves to training and then agreeing to at least 1-2 ranger "patrols" per month. Training will include:
Leave No Trace education
Wilderness education (what is capital "W" wilderness?)
Two-way radio transmission and protocol
Land navigation
Basic first aid/CPR
Authority of the Resource technique for visitor encounters
